Process for Vehicle Registration in RTO Tamil Nadu 

Registration of vehicles is mandatory under Tamil Nadu RTO to safeguard and maintain the rod safety laws. It is necessary to apply for the registration certificate at RTO Tamil Nadu (TN RTO) within 7 days of buying a new vehicle. The certificate contains all the information about the vehicle and the owner that is safely recorded under the RTO Tamil Nadu (TN RTO) database. Listed below are the supporting documents that are needed by the authority to issue the registration certificate from RTO Tamil Nadu (TN RTO).

  1. Operational Form-20
  2. Form 21- sales authorization document 
  3. Road merit authentication and Pollution Under Control (PUC) authentication and Form 22- from the vehicle maker.
  4. Form-60/61 from the Income Tax Division or PAN card. 
  5. Authentication of insurance of the vehicle.  
  6. Evidence of residence (anyone):
  • -Ration card
  • -Voter ID card
  • -LIC Policy 
  • -Attested affidavit by the seeker
  1. Passport size images- 3 copies 
  2. If vehicles are registered temporarily, then documents for so will be required. 

Process to Transfer the Ownership of Vehicles in Tamil Nadu RTO 

Suppose someone wishes to transfer the ownership of one's vehicle into someone else's name as he is getting rid of his old vehicle. In that case, the owner must file an application in Form 29 with the Regional Transport Officer. 

The list of documents that are required to submit at RTO Tamil Nadu (TN RTO) are as follows: 

  1. Form 29: Announcement of the transfer of vehicle (duplication).
  2. Form 30, filled with the vehicle, has been mortgaged. 
  3. Vehicle Registration Certificate (RC).
  4. Vehicle Insurance Documentation
  5. Proof of residence (anyone):
  • -Ration card
  • -Voter ID card
  • -Life Insurance Policy
  • -Passport size images
  • -Salary slips provided by the government
  • Attested affidavit by the applicant
  1. A NOC (No Objection Certificate) must be taken from the financier only if the vehicle has been bought on finance. 
  2. Proof of road tax.

Transposition of Ownership from Any Other State

If you have purchased your vehicle from any other state and are shifting to Tamil Nadu due to your work, you will be required to register your vehicle at RTO Tamil Nadu (TN RTO). On the other hand, if you only want to reside within the state for 12 months or so, you need not register your vehicle again. The following documents are needed while you re-register your vehicle in Tamil Nadu RTO (TN RTO).

  1. Form no 20 duly signed.
  2. Form no 27, duly signed so that a new authentication number can be provided. 
  3. Form no 28 for the application of NOC.
  4. Form no 29 is an announcement of the vehicle ownership rights. 
  5. Form 33 is an announcement of the alteration of residence. 
  6. Form 30 requests for the transfer of ownership.
  7. Certificate of vehicle registration 
  8. Certification from the police.
  9. Documentation of the insurance of the vehicle.
