Uttar Pradesh RTO: History and Establishment

The history of Uttar Pradesh RTO (UP RTO) is drawn from 1947 and was initially named UP Government Roadways. Under the provision of the Road Transport Act of 1950, it was renamed Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) on the 1st of June, 1972. The act of the RTO UP department is to provide services to passengers and necessary documents to vehicle owners. Activities such as checking pollution, tax collection, road transport rule enforcement, etc., are primary duties of the Uttar Pradesh RTO.  

Basic Information About RTO Uttar Pradesh

The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation is spread across the state consisting of 20 Regional offices, 6 zonal, 115 Bus Depots and 301 Bus Stations. The transport department in Uttar Pradesh is headed by the transport commissioner Shri Chandra Bhushan Singh (IAS), who grants certificates and permits to commercial and non-commercial vehicles. The head of RTO UP is responsible for carrying out an organised public transport system in all areas under its jurisdiction. Various Charges of Uttar Pradesh Regional Transport Office (RTO UP)

Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) levies certain fees for all its services. The vehicle owners residing in Uttar Pradesh are abide to pay the charges to use the services available under RTO UP. 

Charges for Issuance of the License by Uttar Pradesh RTO

The following charges are applicable by RTO UP for license issuance. 

  • Issuance of learners license costs Rs. 200
  • Conducting online tests or repeat tests for a learner’s license costs Rs. 100

  • To issue an international driving permit costs Rs. 1000

The Uttar Pradesh RTO levies the following charges to issue or renew the trade certificate.

Charges to issue or renew the registration certificate by UP RTO

The following charges are levied to issue or renew the registration certificate UP RTO and assignment of a new registration mark.

  • Three-wheeler/Quadricycle/Light Motor Vehicles (Non-Transport) - Rs. 600
  • Three-wheeler/Quadricycle/Light Motor Vehicles (Transport) - Rs. 1000

Other service charges under RTO UP

The other services not mentioned above are chargeable by RTO UP as under

  • Grant or renewal of a certificate of fitness for motor vehicle- Rs. 200
  • Grant or renewal of letter of authority- Rs. 15,000
  • Issue of duplicate letter of authority- Rs. 7,500

Why do you need to register your vehicle with Uttar Pradesh RTO?

The registration certificate is the most important document if you own a vehicle. Vehicle registration by RTO UP helps you get a unique identity for your vehicle and differentiate it from others. Renewal of Registration Certificate in Uttar Pradesh RTO

The validity of a registration certificate issued by UP RTO is 15 years from the date of issue. If you wish to use your vehicle continuously, renewal of the registration certificate is required. You need to renew the registration certificate within 60 days after the expiry. You need to submit the renewal fees at RTO UP with the necessary documents. After the inspection by the respective authority, the RC will be renewed for the next 5 years. The following documents are required to be submitted for successful renewal.

Process to Get a Duplicate Registration Certificate from Uttar Pradesh RTO

Process to the Transfer of Vehicle Ownership in RTO UP
