Five Safety Rules That You Must Be Aware Of While Driving
Vehicles have made our lives easy, convenient and comfortable. But with the rapid increase in road accidents, it becomes a necessity to educate the masses about the safety rules while driving. It is always better to remain a little cautious and follow traffic rules lest you should repent later. To make it easier for you, we bring to you five safety rules that you must be aware of while driving.
Do Not Drink and Drive
Alcohol causes blurred vision and loss of consciousness. It also lowers blood pressure levels and causes other impairments which can prove fatal while you drive. Hence drinking and driving is a serious offence and is punishable by law. So, just in case you get caught drunk while driving, there are chances of you getting fined. The fine is up to Rs 10,000 or up to six months of imprisonment or sometimes, both.
Never Disobey Traffic Signals
One of the main causes of road accidents is not following traffic signals. You must stop when the light is red. Breaking this rule is an offence and the government is trying to make the punishment harsher by elevating the fine from Rs 5000 to Rs 15000. It also came into effect as an attempt to lower down the rate of road accidents caused by jumping a red light. Besides the fine, drivers might lose their driving license for one month.
You need to be cautious and aware while driving. You should stay away from distractions like cell phones while you drive. Avoid multitasking and concentrate on your driving. Do not call or text your friends or even eat while driving. If you are exhausted and drowsy, it is best to shift your plan for the next day and rest. You should use your cell phone only when there is an emergency.
Always Wear Your Seat Belt
Accidents for not wearing a seat belt are quite common in India. Most people do not find it necessary to tie their seat belts. But wearing your seat belt should be the first thing to do when you sit in the driver’s seat. Studies prove that people not wearing seat belts are 30 times more ejected out of their cars while compared to the ones wearing it. Wearing a seat belt will save you from any fatal accident if you ever land up in one.
Maintain a Safe Distance And Keep Your Speed Within The Limit.
It is always advised to keep a safe distance from the vehicle to avoid any clash or slam if the car in front suddenly turns or stops. If you maintain the two-second rule, that is staying at least two seconds away from the vehicle in front of you will save you from accidents.
Driving within the speed limit is always recommended. Speed limits vary from state to state and you must follow them. Hazardous speed on the roads is punishable by law. A person caught over speeding is likely to be fined and can also face imprisonment.
Ensure your safety on the road and make the roads a safe place to drive!
