The Telangana Ministry of Transport operates in compliance with the rules mentioned in Article 213 of the Motor Vehicle Act 1988. The Telangana Ministry is responsible for ensuring the safety of the people. The license to drivers, road permits, and much more is also a responsibility of the ministry.
Functions performed by Regional Transport Offices in Telangana
- TS RTO approves the driver's license. The department is also responsible for granting permission to people who want to learn to drive. Apart from this, the department also renews and creates duplicate licenses.
- Telangana RTO provides authorization and permits to vehicles. Licenses for different kinds of vehicles are various. A bus carrying school children will hold a different kind of permit from that of an auto-rickshaw.
- RTO Telangana oversees collecting taxes from vehicle owners quarterly. In addition to this, there are green taxes, border taxes, etc.
- Every vehicle is issued a fitness certificate which this department gives. The department also provides a temporary certificate.

Process for Vehicle Registration in the State of Telangana:
According to the Motor Vehicle Act 1988, vehicles can only be ply on roads if they are registered under the state RTO. Any vehicle must obtain a registration number within 30 days of the date of purchase. To get vehicle registration, you need to apply with all the necessary documents.
Necessary documents required for the registration of vehicles in the state of Telangana:
- Form no 20-application.
- Form no 21-sales certificate
- Form no 22- road quality certificate
- Proof of residence
- PUC Certificate
- Tax paid according to the Telangana Motor vehicles Act, 1988.
Process of transfer of vehicle ownership in the state of Telangana:
- NOC must be taken from the RTO only if the vehicle has been registered in the state.
- A financer provides the NOC only if the vehicle is bought via a financier.
